Art
Art Subject Overview
At Woolenwick Schools, we inspire children with the work of artists in a range of disciplines, allowing them to critically reflect upon and integrate techniques in their own work. Children develop their creative and imaginative talents through developing knowledge and learning a variety of skills and techniques, helping them to become confident, resilient artists. The overarching aim is that children develop a love of art that will stay with them for life.
Our curriculum aims for children to:
- experience the use of different tools and medias
- have the opportunity to evaluate and share opinions in a constructive manner
- express themselves through different mediums
- be creative with the concepts of drawing, painting and sculpture
Children will build their conceptual knowledge through studying art from around the world in different formats. They will further develop their disciplinary skills by considering the inspiration for different pieces and allowing their own experiences to influence their work. Throughout their time at school, they will be given the tools to enable them to effectively express evaluations of their own and others work in a way that focuses on artistic features and processes.
Each unit includes overarching concepts, where are revisited and built upon each year. These concepts are:
- Drawing
- Painting and Collage
- Sculpture
The children will be able to create marks and patterns of increasing complexity.
Through art, children develop their cultural experiences by exploring ideas and meanings in the work of famous and emerging artists, crafts people and designers, historical and contemporary.
