French subject overview 

At Woolenwick Junior School, we believe that learning a modern foreign language is an essential part of preparing children for life in a global society. Our chosen language of study is French, following an agreement made by all schools in Stevenage to provide continuity in language learning across the town.

Learning a foreign language is a valuable experience: it opens children’s minds to other cultures, fosters curiosity, and broadens their understanding of the world. Through learning French, pupils gain the skills to express their ideas in another language, communicate for practical purposes, and develop new ways of thinking. Our aim is to provide strong foundations for further language learning, supporting pupils in their future education and careers, and helping them to participate fully as global citizens.
