Science overview

Our science curriculum is designed to encourage every student to explore and experience the wonders of the scientific world, providing an inclusive environment that inspires them to think like innovative scientists, and instils a life-long curiosity about the world.

In the Infants and Nursery school we explore how science has changed our lives and is vital to the world’s future prosperity. Children will be taught the essential aspects of the knowledge, methods, processes, and uses of science. Children are encouraged to understand how science can be used to explain what is occurring, predict how things will behave, and analyse causes. Our science curriculum develops children’s natural curiosity, awe and wonder, as they develop respect and formulate theories of the world around them through scientific enquiry. We nurture inquisitive minds; ‘What if?’ and ‘Let’s find out’.

Moving into the Junior School our curriculum encompasses biology, chemistry, and physics, providing a well-rounded foundation that caters to the diverse interests and abilities of our students. A key focus here is to enhance the science capital of all pupils, fostering a deeper connection and understanding of the ever-changing world around us and creating enriching opportunities that amplify their understanding and appreciation of the subject.

Across both schools, we seek to EQUIP our children not only with essential scientific knowledge but also with the skills necessary to navigate and connect previous learning experiences with current enquiries. Our approach is deeply inclusive, ensuring that we pay particular attention to supporting our most vulnerable learners. This commitment to inclusivity promotes a sense of belonging and empowers all pupils to thrive within the scientific domain.
